El Parlamento Europeo pidi\u00f3 en enero que la Justicia verificara la legalidad de ese acuerdo de libre comercio entre el bloque europeo y el Mercosur, compuesto por Argentina, Brasil, Paraguay y Uruguay. Pero, entretanto, la Comisi\u00f3n Europea opt\u00f3 por que el acuerdo se aplique de forma provisional, muy criticado por el sector agr\u00edcola en Francia pero respaldado por los gobiernos de Alemania y Espa\u00f1a. \u00abLa Uni\u00f3n Europea ha notificado hoy a los pa\u00edses del Mercosur el instrumento de aplicaci\u00f3n provisional del Acuerdo Comercial Provisional UE-Mercosur\u00bb, indic\u00f3 el Ejecutivo comunitario. Explic\u00f3 que, con el env\u00edo de su \u00abnota verbal\u00bb a Paraguay, pa\u00eds depositario de los tratados del Mercosur, la Comisi\u00f3n Europea ha dado el \u00faltimo paso procedimental necesario para la aplicaci\u00f3n provisional, de conformidad con la decisi\u00f3n del Consejo de la UE del pasado 9 de enero. As\u00ed, el acuerdo comercial se aplicar\u00e1 de forma provisional a partir del 1 de mayo entre la UE y todos los pa\u00edses del Mercosur que hayan completado sus procedimientos de ratificaci\u00f3n y lo hayan notificado a la UE antes de finales de marzo; Argentina, Brasil y Uruguay ya lo han hecho, mientras que Paraguay ha ratificado recientemente el acuerdo y la Comisi\u00f3n Europea espera que env\u00ede su notificaci\u00f3n en breve. <strong>La aplicaci\u00f3n provisional garantiza la eliminaci\u00f3n de los aranceles sobre determinados productos \u00abdesde el primer d\u00eda, lo que crea normas predecibles para el comercio y la inversi\u00f3n\u00bb, record\u00f3 la Comisi\u00f3n, que agreg\u00f3 que los sectores sensibles de la econom\u00eda de la UE \u00abest\u00e1n plenamente protegidos por s\u00f3lidas salvaguardias\u00bb.<\/strong> Para la Comisi\u00f3n, la aplicaci\u00f3n provisional garantizar\u00e1 adem\u00e1s mayor colaboraci\u00f3n entre la UE y el Mercosur en cuestiones globales urgentes, como los derechos laborales y el cambio clim\u00e1tico.
